Carmanah
Raised in a small town in Alberta, Canada, I was fortunate enough to spend a lot of my childhood exploring the beautiful Rocky Mountains. This is where I developed an interest in hiking, camping, and all things outdoorsy from a young age. This quickly translated into a passion for travel once I realized that I could do all of these things abroad while discovering new places to fall in love with.
I eventually moved to the West Coast to pursue another passion of mine- archaeology. I obtained a bachelor’s degree in archaeology at Simon Fraser University while simultaneously working in the field. During this time I got to enjoy all sorts of crazy adventures while unearthing artifacts and exploring the Canadian wilderness on foot, by ATV, or even by helicopter. If you think that you detected a hint of extra excitement in any of our blog posts relating to ancient ruins or history museums, you are right, this is my happy place.
I have always enjoyed reading and writing. During my time in school this interest helped fuel what felt like an endless amount of essays and academic reports. Once I started travelling, I decided to take advantage of my newfound time and freedom and I began to keep a daily journal. I did this for fun and with the hope that myself or my loved ones might read it one day down the road. These personal entries morphed into Seek New Peaks, and I couldn’t be happier to get to share my thoughts and experiences with other like-minded people on here!
Jeremie
I grew up in the Laurentians of Quebec, Canada, where I spent family holidays skiing, ice fishing, and boating around the local lakes. I have been dipping my toes in photography for the better part of two decades, having been given my first camera at age ten. However, it took me a lot of travelling and soul searching to figure out where my true passions lie. I have tried everything from cooking school to picking fruits, and have lived halfway across the world and in many other places within Canada. Life eventually came full circle when I landed a job in the film industry in Vancouver as a lighting technician, which reignited my love of photography and videography.
As good as life had been living in one of the world’s most beautiful cities with the woman of my dreams, the thirst for adventure had me leave it all (not the girlfriend) to travel the world. As an aspiring cinematographer I am working at improving my skills, and there is nothing more inspiring than seeing amazing landscapes, observing exotic wildlife, and witnessing people’s different ways of living. I feel truly blessed to be able to be part of this world, to immortalize it through photography, and to share it.
How Did we Cross Paths?
Our story started when we met at a hotel in Banff, Canada, where we both got jobs as housekeepers. In other words, our romance began with changing bedsheets and scrubbing toilets. Jeremie bought an old converted camper van, and shortly after we decided to move in and set off together to explore Canada and the United States. This turned into a four month journey exploring some of the most beautiful areas of the West Coast while hiking, surfing, and photographing everything along the way. We have been hooked on the budget travel lifestyle ever since.
International trips took a back seat for a while once Covid hit and we each focused on our education. We enjoyed a few years of adventuring around our home country and taking some smaller trips overseas. Then, in 2024, we decided that the time had finally come to transition to full time travel, something that we had both been dreaming about for most of our lives. We both worked many long hours and saved up as much as we possibly could before giving up our jobs, leaving our tiny apartment in Vancouver, and moving what we couldn’t sell back in with our parents (shout out to them). We had the rough idea to backpack our way from Mexico to Argentina, and didn’t prepare much more of an itinerary beyond that. We purchased one-way tickets to Mexico City and have been backpacking ever since.
Both of us share a deep love of nature and are tree- huggers at heart. Travelling in eco-conscious and ethical ways is important to us, and we try to reflect this in our content. We are passionate about doing outdoor activities that challenge us, and maybe even make us occasionally question why we aren’t just at home eating chips on the couch. This includes things like hiking, climbing, snowboarding/skiing, and camping. We absolutely adore animals, and have a very hard time resisting the urge to pet all of the street cats we find. We also love a good home-cooked meal, and can often be found in the hostel kitchen cooking food that provides us with a little taste of home.
Seek New Peaks offers something for everyone from seasoned adventurers looking for detailed hiking route information to newer travellers curious (and perhaps a bit unsure) about getting off the beaten path. We are always travelling on a tight budget, and think that dealing with things like “rustic” accommodations or unconventional modes of transportation are all part of the fun. Our desire to find truly authentic experiences and to carve out our own path means that our posts offer unique information not available anywhere else. Seek New Peaks is our spot to gather the very best of our travel moments and to display them in beautiful and genuine ways, so that we can help others find their own moments of joy in unexpected places.
We also love to meet new people! Please feel free to reach out to us with any comments, concerns, or just to say hi. We would love to know a little something about you and what brought you to our site.
